Critical Coast is the World’s Most Beautiful Book 2024

The 2024 World’s Most Beautiful Book was announced in Leipzig, Germany by the Stiftung Buchkunst (German Book Arts Foundation). This competition is one of the most prestigious events in the publishing industry, and the selected books represent the highest level of book design and manufacturing in the world today.

This year the Gold Medal went to the book Critical Coast, printed by Grafiche Veneziane for the Danish Architectural Press!

The book has a hardcover with bright green colour screen printing and blind debossing on top. The interior pages are printed in five colours in line. The glamorous binding is thread-sewn, with a rounded spine and two bookmarks. The book comes in the format of a durable handbook that readers can bring along into the field – into imaginary coastal landscapes as well as those at risk of disappearing today.
The book was designed by Alexis Mark with Orin Bristow, for the Danish Architectural Press, in the occasion of the Venice Biennale 2023.

It was a great honour to have worked with all the team on this iconic book, which catches the eye at first glance!
